ABOUT PYI

The Peekok YouthARTS Initiatives (PYI) is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-tribal youth arts organization dedicated to empowering young people in Nigeria—and across Africa—through creative expression and arts education.

Founded in December 2007 by a group of young professional artists following their participation in the Top-12 Youthwork Projects seminar organized by the British Council Nigeria and Youngstars Foundation Int’l in Jos, Plateau State, PYI began its operations in Rayfield, Jos. It now has a presence in Lagos, Oyo, Osun, and Delta States, leveraging the collaboration and networks of committed professional artists.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

Since its inception in 2007, Peekok YouthARTS Initiatives has engaged hundreds of young people of all ages through its acclaimed classes, workshops, and community programs. Through our Residency Programme and Performance Series, many students have experienced their first exposure to live, professional artists—opening doors to creativity, inspiration, and personal discovery.

Our YouthARTS Coordinators, based in five Nigerian states, collaborate closely with school art instructors and local communities to reach specific youth audiences. We currently work with approximately 500 youths weekly, with 98% being children and teenagers.

PYI’s influence extends beyond Nigeria. Our students have represented us in several international arts competitions across the U.S., UK, Europe and Asia, where their work has received high commendation and global recognition.
