We are thrilled to announce the upcoming run of our new show. “JAGUNLABI,” at the Fuse International 2024 on Friday, 28 th June at the Arthur Cotterll Theatre Main (The ACT Theatre). For the past 12 years, Peekok YouthARTS Initiatives has been on a journey that began with our first appearance at the Rose Theatre in Kingston, United Kingdom. This journey has been fueled by passion, dedication, and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of the
arts. Across all artistic forms.
we have witnessed young individuals discovering their voice, unlocking their creativity, and expressing
themselves in ways that transcend boundaries. “Jagunlabi” is a full-fledged dramatic performance enriched with many themes primarily focusing on “human purpose”. It is designed to entertain, inspire, motivate, and awaken everyone, but particularly young people. It is widely understood that every child is born with specific uniqueness and purpose. In Africa, the setting of this show, a child’s name is often motivated by the child’s lineage and what the future or destiny of the child is believed to be. This performance will unravel that mystery. The play highlights themes of courage, selflessness, determination, eradication of social ills, violence against women and children, and most importantly,
BRAVERY.
The performance adopts a narrative style, minimizing dialogues to allow for more actions among the characters. This style also helps the audience better understand the story. It incorporates dramatic displays with music, dance, drama, and actions showcasing African cultural values, storytelling,
and cultural preservation. We are excited to share that the international audience will have the opportunity to learn from the rich African cultural heritage.
Tickets on sale in May 2024.
